Food Lion has launched its own grocery pickup service, Food Lion To-Go, in more than 100 stores across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The new service will allow Food Lion customers to pick up their orders in as little as an hour, and shoppers can choose a date and time slot that works with their schedule.

While Food Lion’s shopping portal will be managed by Instacart, it has the advantage of honoring the same pricing that is available in-store, including MVP pricing through its loyalty program, unlike many Instacart options.

Company officials said the program will allow the retailer to “continue to deliver on its promise to ensure an easy, fresh and affordable grocery shopping experience,” part of a larger initiative encompassing a major remodeling of hundreds of stores in the past four years, including 92 recently in South Carolina.

According to Deborah Sabo, SVP of marketing for Food Lion, the retailer’s associates will become personal shoppers for the service and are “able to hand-pick the freshest produce and best cuts of meat, just as they would for their own family.”

When shoppers pick up their order, they simply park in the designated parking area, where a Food Lion associate will deliver their order to their car. Food Lion To-Go will be available seven days a week from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

The retailer is offering shoppers’ first pickup order for free as an incentive to give it a try.

Following the first purchase, pickup orders will cost $1.99 for a two-hour pickup window for orders of $35 or more and $5.99 for a pickup of less than $35.
