Food Lion, the top-performing U.S. banner for Ahold Delhaize, will open a new store in the Wesley Chapel neighborhood of Charlotte, N.C., on June 29, continuing the chain's home state expansion.

The new store, located at 5939 Weddington Road, will feature fresh sushi, fresh-cut fruit and what Food Lion touts as an assortment of affordable and convenient grab-and-go options. Locally sourced offerings will include craft beers, premium pimento cheese made by Charlotte’s Trade & Tryon; and local produce from Patterson Farms in China Grove, N.C.

In addition, the retailer stated in a news release, customers will find a wide variety of organic, gluten-free and plant-based items to choose from, including offerings from Food Lion's Nature's Promise private label of natural and organic products made with no artificial flavors, preservatives or synthetic colors.

The new store will open to the public at 8 a.m. following a 7:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony; the first 100 customers in line on June 29 will receive a mystery gift card valued at up to $200 as well as commemorative apron and a reusable bag.

“I’m so excited to open this new location in the town I call home,” said Micheal Brigman, store manager of the new Wesley Chapel Food Lion, in a statement. “I’m looking forward to serving our community with a store that’s clean, well-stocked and competitively priced.”

Food Lion said the new location will offer self-checkout lanes and the Food Lion To Go grocery pick-up service. The new store also will feature energy-efficient overhead LED lighting as part of Food Lion’s commitment to sustainable operations, the grocer said. On the local level, Food Lion said it donated $2,500 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina through Food Lion Feeds, the retailer’s hunger-relief initiative.

An Ahold Delhaize banner, Food Lion for the past 38 consecutive quarters has delivered positive sales growth. Food Lion has more than 1,100 stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states and employs more than 82,000 associates.
