Backed by a $158 million capital expenditures purse, Food Lion is gearing up to remodel 92 stores in four South Carolina metro markets this year as part of its "Easy, Fresh and Affordable" initiative.
The latest investment from the retailer, which will refresh stores in Myrtle Beach, Florence, Columbia and Charleston, S.C., comes after a successful remodel of 63 Food Lion stores in the Roanoke, Va., market that was completed in October. Once this year's remodels are complete, Food Lion will have updated 80% of its network of more than 1,000 stores across its 10-state operating area.
In addition to remodeling stores, the retailer will also reserve a chunk of the investment funds to lowering prices, expanding product assortment—including adding more more local, natural, organic and gluten-free items—and hiring nearly 2,000 new associates who will receive updated customer-centric training.
Food Lion President Meg Ham shared that after serving the South Carolina market for 43 years, the retailers is excited for the revamp that will "offer a new grocery shopping experience."
"Our mission is to ensure our customers can easily find fresh, quality products to nourish their families at affordable prices every day, delivered with caring, friendly service every time they shop," she said. "We look forward to reintroducing our renovated stores later this summer."
The stores will also feature enhanced deli and bakery services such as hand-battered fried chicken, and six remodels will feature walk-in produce coolers designed to keep produce fresher for longer.
