Landover, Md.-based Giant Food today opened its Ship2Me marketplace, allowing shoppers to add tens of thousands of new products to their online shopping basket. Giant Food becomes the first brand under the Ahold Delhaize USA family to launch using Ship2Me.

Looking to widen the company’s online assortment, Giant Food will now offer products in health and beauty, home decor, seasonal items, kitchen and dining, outdoor, pets and premium pantry items through Ship2Me, a provider of global consumer package forwarding.

This new marketplace gives Giant customers throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Delaware the chance to select from over 40,000 items to place in their cart alongside any Giant Pickup or Giant Delivers products.

“Online grocery demand continues to grow, and we are constantly working to increase our capabilities and offerings to best serve the communities we operate in," said Giant Food President Ira Kress in a news release. "We are thrilled to be the first brand under the Ahold Delhaize USA family to be launching Ship2Me and bringing this innovative and expansive marketplace to our customers."

Over the past 12 months, Giant’s online demand has seen a significant increase resulting in over three million online orders. Looking to build upon this demand, the company sees it as an opportunity to strengthen its ties to the company’s customers.

"At Giant, we are always looking for ways to give time back to our customers and make our services more convenient and accessible," said Gregg Dorazio, director of e-commerce for Giant Food. "The introduction of Ship2Me allows Giant to expand its assortment within traditional and nontraditional grocery categories, making it the most seamless one-stop-shop for our customers."

Earlier today, Ahold Delhaize USA, in partnership with Instacart, also announced it would expand 30-minute delivery on convenience items through its banners, including Giant Food.

Giant Food, an Ahold Delhaize brand, was founded in 1936 and operates 164 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C.
