As it continues to invest in its omnichannel strategy, Landover, Md.-based Giant Food announced March 15 that its pickup service is now free and available same-day within four hours at all its 159 Giant Pickup location.

“E-commerce demand continues to escalate as more customers discover the time-saving benefits of online shopping at Giant,” said Gregg Dorazio, director of e-commerce for Giant Food. “Free pickup on all orders makes this personalized service even more accessible.”

Dorazio added that Giant Food guarantees 100% satisfaction and that its trained associates will “select the freshest foods” for customers.

Last year, Giant Food also eliminated minimum order requirements for all Giant Pickup orders, and minimum order requirements for Giant Delivers were halved and delivery fees were eliminated for midweek orders and reduced significantly for popular Friday-Monday dates.

The moves are all aimed at adding value across its in-store and online offerings. Along the same vein, Giant Food also offers individuals and families using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits the option to pay with an electronic benefits transfer card when placing online orders for Giant Pickup and Giant Delivers.

And in an effort to expand beyond traditional grocery, Giant launched in December the Ship2Me marketplace within GiantFood.com, featuring over 60,000 items across categories such as home decor, seasonal items, outdoor and pet.

Giant has 164 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia and about 20,000 employees. Within those 164 stores are 152 full-service pharmacies, 83 full-service PNC Banks and 26 Starbucks locations.
