Gordon Food Service is taking another step into Texas.

The family-managed broadline foodservice distribution company broke ground this week in Galveston, Texas, for its newest store coming to the area.

Gordon Food Service is excited to be building in the Galveston community and looks forward to serving the market early next year,” Mark Dempsey, Gordon Food Service store’s director of marketing, e-commerce and sales, told WGB on Wednesday.

Last month, Gordon Food Service made its entrance into Texas, with the opening of four new stores in the greater Houston area.

“Gordon Food Service believes in the power of good food and its ability to bring people together and make moments special," said Tim Grabar, president of Gordon Food Service, in a statement regarding the store openings in Houston. "We are excited to open our doors to the greater Houston community and provide the chef-quality food products our stores are known for."

The family-managed broadline foodservice distribution company's new stores range in size between 25,000 and 30,000 square feet and will employ 40 full- and part-time workers.

Known to cater to restaurant owners and foodservice professionals with an easy-to-shop layout, Gordon Food Service, is open to the public and is eyeing to ease wallet spend for shoppers as grocery inflation is still at elevated levels.

CHEF’STORE, the warehouse retail concept from US Foods that is open to restaurant professionals as well as the general public, is also expanding its brick-and-mortar footprint nationwide.

An alternative to wholesale clubs with no membership fees, CHEF’STORE opened its second store in Utah earlier this year bringing the retailer's store count to 88 nationwide across 13 states as the wholesale segment continues to grow.

BJ’s Wholesale Club is also capitalizing on its value-is-king model as the Marlborough, Massachusetts-based wholesale club recently announced five new club openings as part of the retailer's westward expansion. On Monday, BJ's announced it is now offering 50 cents off per gallon of gas to members who spend at least $150 on the same day for the month of April.

Scaling its business for future growth, Emeryville, California-based discounter Grocery Outlet is also widening its brick-and-mortar footprint nationwide.  The extreme-value grocery retailer, which operates over 400 stores nationwide, will open its newest location in Dash Point, Washington, next Thursday. The new store will create 32 new jobs in Seattle suburb.
