Grocery Outlet plans for bi-coastal store openings

The fast-growing West Coast discounter will open a new store in Palm Desert, California, and Manheim, Pennsylvania.

Emeryville, California-based Grocery Outlet is scheduled for bi-coastal openings next week. The first location. slated to open Thursday, will be in Palm Desert, California, and the other will open in Manheim, Pennsylvania, next Saturday.

Independent operators Keenam and Jennifer Carrillo said in a statement that “we are so thrilled to be a part of the Palm Desert community and provide some relief with big savings on quality groceries.”  The new store in California’s Coachella Valley off Highway 111 in Palm Desert is also expected to bring 30 new jobs to the area.

Grocery Outlet, which touts big discounts on brand-name products, will also host a grand opening of its store in Pennsylvania’s northwestern Lancaster County on Route 72 in Manheim. The opening of the new store will be held on Sept. 23, according to the retailer’s website.

The fast-growing West Coast discounter is having a banner year, officially marking the 450th location for the retailer in Las Vegas last month as well as achieving record-setting results during its second quarter, reporting that net sales topped $1 billion.

Founded in 1946, the extreme-value grocery retailer operates locations throughout California, Idaho, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington.
