Grocery Outlet, the fast-growing West Coast discounter, is adding another location to its East Coast portfolio next week as the current inflationary environment is proving to be a winning strategy for unit growth.
The Emeryville, California-based company will open its newest store in the Baltimore suburb of Glen Burnie, Maryland, on Thursday. Located at 78 Mountain Road, the new store will employ 35 people.
Grocery Outlet stores are owned and run by independent retailers based in the communities they serve.
“We are so thrilled to be a part of the Glen Burnie community and provide some relief with big savings on quality groceries,” said independent operators Hussain and Ambreen Zaidi. “This partnership with Grocery Outlet gives us the ability to grow our business, create new jobs and more importantly, give back to the local community.”
Grocery Outlet, which is set to report its third quarter earnings next Thursday has been optimistic about its business model going forward.
“Looking ahead, we have tremendous white space with the potential to operate over 4,000 stores in the U.S. We are continuing to invest in real estate and construction resources to fulfill our future store potential,” CEO RJ Sheedy told investors during the company’s second quarter earnings call in August, according to a transcript from financial services site Senteio.
The extreme-value grocery retailer operates over 440 locations in California, Idaho, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington and Maryland.
