H-E-B Plots a New Store in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area
The grocer owns 28 acres in Mansfield, Texas, and plans to break ground for a new location early next year., H-E-B announced Thursday.
San Antonio-based H-E-B plans to build a new store in Mansfield, Texas, about 40 minutes south of Dallas, the grocer announced Thursday.
When it opens, it will be the first H-E-B store in Tarrant County, part of the retailer’s plan to grow in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A groundbreaking is slated for early next year.
H-E-B owns about 28 acres at the Mansfield site, the company said.
“The store builds on the company’s longstanding presence in the area and reinforces its commitment to serve more customers in this dynamic and growing part of Texas,” H-E-B said in a statement.
H-E-B, known for stocking Texas brands on its shelves, currently has more than 420 stores in Texas and Mexico.
It has been steadily growing its presence in the state, with both traditional grocery stores and e-commerce fulfillment centers.
The retailer also operates a store at Central Market in Fort Worth, about 20 minutes from Mansfield.
“For years, our residents have asked for an H-E-B, and on behalf of the city council, we are proud to welcome this economic driver and much-desired business to Mansfield, ” Mayor Michael Evans said in a statement. “With our growing economy and invested community, Mansfield is the perfect home for the first H-E-B location in southeast Tarrant County and we are excited about the continued economic growth coming to our city and the entire southeast Tarrant County region.”
Last month, H-E-B opened its fifth e-commerce fulfillment center, as it expands its booming curbside and home-delivery business.
The 50,000-square-foot-facility in Leander, a fast-growing area of Central Texas, is designed to ease in-store congestion from digital-order fulfillment.
The grocer opened its first e-commerce fulfillment center in 2018, with plans to open more across the state by the end of 2023—including a Plano location to aid the company’s expansion into the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the retailer said.
