Lidl has expanded its pilot online grocery delivery service with Shipt following a successful launch in Greenville, S.C. in October. Shipt will serve Lidl customers in three additional metro areas across North Carolina, including Raleigh, Winston-Salem and Charlotte, as well as expanded service areas in South Carolina, including Spartanburg, Rock Hill and Indian Land, beginning Dec. 7, 2017.

With the expansion, Lidl groceries are now available for delivery through Shipt to more than 500,000 households across the Carolinas. New Shipt members who sign up prior to the rollout date will receive a discounted annual membership fee of $49 rather than the standard $99 fee.

“This pilot with Lidl marks a milestone in our continued commitment to provide families with high-quality fresh groceries and essentials from local stores they trust,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt. “Lidl is well-loved by our members in the Carolinas. Moving into 2018, we plan to continue growing and providing the convenience and quality of grocery delivery to more families across the country.”

Birmingham, Ala.-based Shipt offers customers a digital marketplace to browse products from their local grocery stores, as well as categories featuring healthy ingredients, seasonal selections and recipe inspiration. Shipt plans to hire additional shoppers across the Carolinas prior to the pilot expansion with Lidl, company officials said in a release.

Lidl opened its first U.S. stores in June and launched the pilot program with Shipt in October to provide customers an additional avenue to access fresh produce and grocery products.

“As we continue to grow our store network along the east coast, we remain laser-focused on delivering our customers convenient access to top quality goods and groceries at the lowest possible prices,” said Zara Khaleeli, senior project manager at Arlington, Va.-based Lidl. “By expanding our pilot with Shipt, we are excited to offer our valued customers another convenient way to receive the affordable, trusted products they have come to expect from Lidl.”
