A grocery run is something most people don’t consider fun, but that is about to change for shoppers in Huntersville, N.C. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based grocer Lowes Foods will open a new concept store on Feb.18 that will feature not only specialized foodservice and shopping but also all-day entertainment.

The new store at 14021 Boren St. will be 25,000 square feet, which is smaller than a traditional Lowes Foods store, but will feature several new amenities, including a second-floor mezzanine, which is available for booking events such as birthday parties, book clubs, team celebrations, group meetings, or simply as a place to eat or enjoy a beverage. Lowes Foods also said there will be planned entertainment events in the upper and lower mezzanine areas, such as floral arranging classes, trivia nights, board game tournaments, and beer and wine tastings.

“Our new Huntersville store is like a food hall that will also serve as a community hub for morning coffee, family dinner on the go, beer with a friend, picking up groceries curbside, or a complete grocery shopping experience,” Lowes Foods President Tim Lowe said in a statement. “We call this the Swiss Army Knife of grocery stores. We will have a tool for what you need to do. You want something to do with the kids? We will have events for them. Trying to eat healthy? We will prep all of the fruits and vegetables for you. Need something quick for breakfast or lunch? We have an expanded menu of things you can drive by and pick up. You need to plan the book club meeting? Have it at our place. We’ll set up the cheese board, pour the wine, and have a floral centerpiece. And you won’t have to clean up.”

The Huntersville store will also have a new frictionless shopping app called Scan Pay Go., where guests will be able to scan items as they shop and then checkout at specially marked kiosks before they leave. This app is in addition to the Lowes Foods to Go app for curbside pickup or delivery.

In addition to a wide selection of organic and prepared foods, new Lowes Foods Originals in the Huntersville store include:

  • The Beer Den, which offers a varied selection of local crafts and drafts, including seasonal offerings of unique beers, special events, tap takeovers and growler fills on-site. In addition, guests can “sip and shop” with a pint of beer or a cup of wine.

  • Lowes' Smokehouse, offering a daily rotation of wood-smoked meats. Shoppers can pick them up ready to eat or ready to take home and heat.

  • Bread Crumb, which brings the bakery experience to life by featuring fresh-baked artisanal breads that are hand-crafted, all-natural and have no preservatives. Lowes Foods’ signature Cobblestone breads are baked using fresh ingredients throughout the day.

  • Sammy’s, a place to grab a sandwich or pizza for a quick lunch or dinner. Shoppers can have these custom-made using Boar’s Head products or something from the Smokehouse and vegetables from Pick & Prep, which offers packaged, grab-and-go fruits and veggies that are cut fresh throughout the day. Pick & Prep chefs will also slice, dice, mince or cube fruits and vegetables while you shop.

  • The Cakery invites shoppers to watch the assembly and icing of square cakes in a range of sizes. Each is topped with icing made fresh in-store with real cream and real butter.

  • The Chicken Kitchen includes a variety of prepared chicken that is fresh and never frozen, locally sourced and is raised with “no antibiotics ever.”

  • Divine Cut offers shoppers certified Angus beef served by high-end steakhouses. Shoppers can pick up custom cut dry-aged steaks.

Locally owned and operated Lowes Foods last March opened a store in Cary, N.C., in which Lowes Foods President Tim Lowe said in a statement: “Our commitment to local includes offering produce sourced through our partnerships with more than 200 farmers from the Carolinas and featuring a wide assortment of unique local products found throughout the store.”

Lowes Foods employs approximately 9,000 people and operates 81 full-service supermarkets. Lowes Foods is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alex Lee Inc.
