Natural Grocers to Open in Cañon City, Colorado

Organics-focused grocer's 42nd store set to open April 13. The Colorado-based grocer announced it’s putting the finishing touches on a 10,000-square-foot new store at 121 N. 16th St. in Cañon City, Colo., that is set open April 13.

Colorado-based Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage said it’s putting the finishing touches on a 10,000-square-foot store at 121 N. 16th St. in Cañon City, Colo., with doors set to open April 13 at 8:30 a.m. The new location will be Natural Grocers' 42nd in the Centennial State.

Offering 100% organic produce since the company's inception, Natural Grocers said its new store also will feature 100% humanely and sustainably raised meats. All eggs on offer will be cage-free; all dairy will be pasture-raised. All prepackaged bulk goods, dietary supplements, body care and household essentials will be non-GMO.

The grocer said its new location will boast a "contemporary" layout, featuring a Cottage Craft Beer shop that will carry a curated selection of craft beer, hard kombucha, and seltzer. In a news release, Natural Grocers noted that the store uses 100% LED lighting, incorporates sustainable building features and was built using nontoxic materials for a lighter environmental footprint.

Natural Grocers said Cañon City grand-opening promotions will include distribution of mystery gift cards to the first 150 customers; a prize wheel, a sweepstakes, and special deals and discounts available April 13–May 12.

Lakewood, Colo.-based Natural Grocers, founded by health and wellness advocates Philip and Margaret Isely, now operates 162 stores in 20 states. Last month, the company reported a 3.8% increase in daily average comp sales growth in its first fiscal quarter of 2022, which ended Dec. 31. Transactions increased 3%, and gross margin improved to 28.4% vs. 27.6% in the first quarter of fiscal 2021.
