Schnuck Markets is renovating its supermarket in Cahokia, Illinois, and almost every part of the store will be upgraded.

St. Louis-based Schnucks said the remodel of the 44,000-square-foot store, located at 1615 Camp Jackson Rd., is expected to be completed by early fall and will include new décor, flooring, shelving and a fresh coat of paint.

The regional grocer is also installing energy-efficient lighting and electronic shelf tags, which the company said has been popular at its other locations.

In addition, the front end of the Cahokia store is  getting a facelift with new check stands and two more self-checkout lanes. Plans also call for updated deli, bakery and seafood service areas and the installation of new refrigerated cases in the produce, dairy and beer departments.

“Schnucks is committed to the Cahokia area and to serving all of our shoppers’ grocery needs,” Schnucks Cahokia store manager Brian Lomelino said in a statement. “Our teammates are excited and anxious to bring our customers a like-new store and improved shopping experience once the renovations are complete.”

Overall, Schnucks operates 115 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin and has 12,000 employees.

The grocer renovated renovated one of its locations in Crestwood, Missouri, in November and is also currently building a new store in Sullivan, Missouri, but does not have an opening date for the new location.

The grocer made headlines in March with the opening of its second Eatwell Market, located in Chesterton, Missouri. The first Eatwell Market, which specializes in natural and organic foods, opened in Columbia, Missouri, in 2020.

Renovations to the Cahokia store follow a pattern of upgrades that focus on health and wellness. In addition to the opening of the second Eatwell location, Schnucks upgraded the delis at 22 of its locations in March to include artificial intelligence-powered salad bars by food tech company Picadeli.

“We know customers are looking for convenient, healthy food options, and they’re going to love the fresh new experience of Picadeli,” Ted Schnuck, Schnuck Markets executive vice president, stated in March, adding, “We are thrilled to offer our customers a customizable, fresh and healthy food option that complements our existing prepared foods offerings.”
