Stater Bros. Markets announced that they will now accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) payments for Instacart orders, making same-day delivery and pickup of grocery items more accessible to more customers.

“Stater Bros. has always been committed to caring for our local communities,” said Rebecca Calvin, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Stater Bros. Markets, in a statement. “This partnership allows us to do just that by making affordable same-day delivery and pickup accessible to more Southern California families.”

In 2017, Stater Bros. Markets expanded its Instacart online grocery ordering and home delivery service from one Orange County location to 26 Stater Bros. Orange County locations. The expansion provided Instacart services to residents and Stater Bros. customers in 74 zip codes throughout the area.

The company now joins other grocery stores such as Albertsons, Sprouts Farmers Market, Meijer, Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops Friendly Markets who recently expanded EBT SNAP acceptance online with Instacart. Instacart now accepts EBT SNAP payments for more than 70 retail banners spanning more than 8,000 stores, “reaching nearly 30 million people experiencing food insecurity across the U.S.,” Instacart said in a statement.

“We're proud to expand our partnership with Stater Bros. Markets to provide families with a more affordable and convenient way to access fresh nutritious foods and pantry staples,” said Sarah Mastrorocco, VP and GM of Access to Food and Nutrition at Instacart, in a statement. “We recognize the role we play in expanding EBT SNAP availability for beneficiaries. This launch serves as a massive milestone for Californians as we continue to increase access to food and nutrition.”

Headquartered in San Bernardino, California, Stater Bros. Markets operates more than 170 stores in seven counties in the Southern California area. The company has been in business for 85 years and has approximately 18,000 employees. Instacart is based in San Francisco. The grocery delivery and pickup service company was founded in 2012.
