Pennsylvania-based Weis Markets on Friday appointed John Driscoll as VP of construction and store development. Driscoll joins the company from San Antonio-based grocer H-E-B, where he led teams working on new stores, remodels, expansions and equipment replacements, Weis said in a statement.

In his new role, Driscoll will oversee the day-to-day management and operation of the company’s construction, architecture, land development, non-resale procurement, energy and facilities maintenance, the grocery retailer said in a statement.

Driscoll, who will report to SVP of real estate and development Rusty Graber, brings 20 years of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in architecture, construction, facility design/maintenance and project management.

Driscoll earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture and an MBA from Texas Tech University.

Weis Markets reported its second quarter earnings on Aug. 1, logging an 8.4% jump in same-store sales during the second quarter, despite inflationary pressures.

As part of its capital expenditure plan for 2022, Weis Markets said in April it will invest $150 million in new stores, remodels, fuel centers, information technology upgrades and smaller store improvement projects.

“This budget includes four new stores, some of which will be completed in the coming years, one expansion, five major remodels and eight fuel centers,” CEO Jonathan Weis said during the Sunbury, Pennsylvania-based retailer’s annual shareholder meeting in April.

Weis Markets operate 197 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.
