Aerofarms goes nationwide at Amazon Fresh stores
The company grows greens and other produce at its indoor grow facilities year round without pesticides and utilizing approximately 95% less water, relative to typical farming methods.
Following a national launch via Whole Foods in 2022, Amazon is doubling down with indoor vertical farming company AeroFarms through the expansion of its locally grown produce options at its Amazon Fresh grocery stores.
The company grows greens and other produce at its indoor grow facilities year round without pesticides and utilizing approximately 95% less water, relative to typical farming methods.
“AeroFarms is excited to continue to scale our national availability with Amazon Fresh to meet the growing consumer demand for our fresh, flavorful and delicious microgreens,” said AeroFarms cofounder and CEO David Rosenberg.
Rosenberg noted the lineup at Amazon Fresh locations includes Aerofresh’s Micro Spicy Mix, Micro Arugula and Micro Rainbow Mix.
The announcement comes at a time when the industry is experiencing rapid growth. A report from Grand View Research notes that the U.S. vertical farming market surpassed $1 billion in 2002 and is expected to grow to $1.27 in 2023. At that rate, the industry will hit $5.9 billion by 2030.
Aerofarm cliams the mantle of No. 1 U.S. microgreens retail brand in both unit and dollar sales. The company’s greens can also be found at other grocers, including Ahold Delhaize stores, Harris Teeter, HEB, The Fresh Market and Walmart.
The 19-year-old company, headquarterd in Newark, New Jersey, has grown more than 550 varieties of plans since its formation in an effort to reduce waste and solve supply chain problems.
