DALLAS — The U.S. Defense Commissary Agency has awarded a new, exclusive two-year produce supply contract for its Area 2 commissaries to Dallas-based Hardie's Fruit & Vegetable company.

Under terms of the contract, Hardie's will provide about 500 produce and floral items to 33 military commissaries in 9 mid-western states, and will build produce-department displays, install weekly signage, and coordinate customer education efforts, promotional tie-ins, food demonstrations, farmers markets and other produce-related on-base events.

Hardie's marketing and merchandising teams will be assisted via partnerships with Loveland, Colo.-based Yancey's, Kansas City, Kan.-based Liberty Fruit Co. and Jamestown, N.D.-based Russ Davis, according to a release.
