The announcement occurred during the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast at Cave B Inn in George, Wash. Each year WAEF’s staff work with an army of volunteers to review applications and award scholarships. This is third year that the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast has been held and the first year a fruit company has been recognized as the Volunteer Organization of the Year. WAEF executive director, Jennifer Witherbee says, “WAEF volunteers support vital roles in our mission to assist students to succeed academically and prepare to enter the workforce. Kershaw Companies employees got involved with WAEF with the support and encouragement of the Kershaw family. Their individual dedication to the mission of WAEF makes the work personal and meaningful. WAEF students are fortunate to have the Kershaw Companies team rooting for them!” Frank Davis, vice president of business development for Superfresh Growers and WAEF board member, says, “With its mission to help companies like Domex Superfresh Growers reward hard working students with help to finance their education, WAEF is critical to our company’s mission to give back to our community. It is awesome that they recognize our team’s dedication to helping students in Washington State reach their education goals and to further their lives. It wouldn’t be possible without WAEF and its volunteers.” WAEF manages the application and awarding of all Kershaw Companies’ scholarships which are awarded to five students each year.
