Farmington Fresh Expands Operations with Onions, Etc.

1 Min Read

LogoFarmington Fresh, a supplier of fresh cut apples, has recently expanded their operations and acquired the assets of Onions, Etc. as part of multi-year expansion plan and company reorganization. Effective April 1, 2014, Farmington Fresh completed the acquisition of Stockton, Calif.-based Onions, Etc. a shipper/repacker of onions and other fruit and vegetable products. Onions Etc. has built a name for themselves with the Home Grown brand and a focus on packaging and merchandising that engages the consumers and offers retailers program driven sales solutions. Current customers of Onions Etc. will see little change in business operations, with all key personnel continuing in their current roles. “Although we are a fresh cut company, the acquisition of retail sales based Onions Etc. fits our strategy to provide expanded products and services to our customers,” says Bruce Hesse PhD, general manager of Farmington Fresh. “Foodservice has been our focus for many years, but the opportunity to add additional products, including onions adds real value to our customers.” Derrell Kelso, division president of Onions Etc. says this merger with Farmington provides real synergies between Onions retail business and Farmington’s foodservice business while utilizing the volume and capital of Farmington to grow both business units. In addition to the recent acquisition of Onions, Etc., Farmington Fresh has also undertaken a capital improvement project that includes a $7 million expansion of clean room facilities and equipment to accommodate additional volume and product lines. “Farmington was the original sliced apple supplier, innovating the apple category more than ten years ago, and we are committed to continuing that legacy, while offering our customers more services and more variety than ever before,” says Hesse.
