Delivered to stores under the Majesty Brand starting next month, the Origami has a deep orange color, high brix and great flavor, say company officials. This unique variety of cantaloupe was developed by the Harris Moran Seed Company. “The Origami melon brings the best attributes of a Western shipper paired with the shelf life of the Harper variety,” says Bill Colace, owner of Five Crowns Marketing.  “We have been searching for a replacement for Impac for years. We will be shipping cantaloupes with higher brix, better color, smaller seed cavity and better flavor this season. We couldn’t be more excited.” The cantaloupe has good shipping ability and a longer shelf life. Its thin rind and small cavity will allow for higher yields per case for retailers. The Origami is being harvested out of the Imperial Valley and will be available through the beginning of July.
