More than 100 farmers joined Giant Food Stores associates and company officials, as well as Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding, for the launch of the retailer’s Locally Grown campaign last week in Carlisle, Pa.
The rally gave the parent of Giant and Martin's stores the opportunity to show appreciation for the growers from its operating area, brief them on the latest news from the produce department and hear from Giant President Nicholas Bertram.
A panel of customers provided their insights on what they are looking for when they shop for local produce, fielding questions from the farmers.
Giant, a division of Ahold Delhaize, also presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Keith Masser of Sterman Masser Inc., a Sacramento, Pa.-based farmer that has been supplying Giant/Martin's since 1976 with Blue Denim potatoes.
