Now is the height of the U.S. citrus season, and Schnucks stores are celebrating citrus with an educational twist by hosting Frieda's Produce University.

On Saturday, February 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Schnucks and Logli shoppers are invited to stop by the produce department to see, touch, taste and learn about a variety of unique and lesser-known citrus fruits. The February 26 session will cover several citrus varieties, including Moro Blood OrangesMelogolds, Shasta Mandarins, KumquatsMeyer Lemons andPummelos. Schnucks expert produce teams will be on-hand throughout the day to teach shoppers how to prepare and enjoy these gems of the citrus world. Many citrus varieties will be sampled, and an informational brochure will also be available.

"Shoppers may be surprised to discover the many varieties of citrus that are now readily available," said Mike O'Brien, Vice President of Produce at Schnucks. "Whether enjoyed out of hand as a snack, or incorporated into recipes, these specialty citrus fruits are sure to delight and brighten up the winter season."

"Frieda's Produce University® is a great way for Schnucks produce teams to show off their expertise and knowledge, while educating shoppers with a fun, hands-on event," said Jackie Caplan Wiggins, Vice President of Frieda's Inc.

Frieda's Specialty Produce and Schnucks have partnered on this ongoing produce education program for several sessions now, each with a different product mix. Frieda's conducts educational seminars with Schnucks produce managers prior to the in-store event.
