On New Year’s Eve, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) was a sponsor of the inaugural New Year’s Eve Idaho Potato Drop in downtown Boise, Idaho. The Great Big Idaho Potato Truck, Spuddy Buddy and 40,000 revelers rang in 2014 as a 17-foot long glowing potato was lowered from a crane into the crowd as the countdown to midnight began. “There was no way we could pass up an opportunity to be a part of this historic event that celebrates the new year with one of Idaho’s most important agricultural products, the Idaho potato,” says Frank Muir, president and CEO. “To show our support, we parked the Great Big Idaho Potato Truck across the street from Idaho Potato Drop and Spuddy Buddy was front and center getting the crowds excited for this monumental event!” The Idaho New Year’s Eve Commission was established to create an annual New Year’s Eve event in Boise that would bolster the local economy and demonstrate pride for one of Idaho’s most important agricultural products, the Idaho potato. The goal is to make the Idaho Potato Drop a nationally recognized event and put Boise on the map as a world destination for New Year's Eve.
