DIVISION VP OF HEALTH AND BEAUTY NAVAJO INC.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the group of people I get to work with every day. This includes my co-workers at Navajo Inc., industry peers on the manufacturing side and all of the retail partners I get to engage with on a daily basis. I am fortunate to work for a 42-year-old private company that is in high growth mode and operates as a startup company instead of a 42-year-old company.
What inspires your leadership approach?
My approach to leadership has always been lead by example and be open to new ideas. I go back to a saying by one of my football coaches: “Do what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it, the way you are supposed to do it, and do it that way every time.” I am not always successful with this goal, but continue to try and achieve this every day. I try to teach younger people to “embrace the ugly.” Not everything will be perfect and you will make mistakes, but don’t be afraid to voice new ideas, keep asking questions and looking for solutions.
What do you cherish most about being a part of the industry?
No. 1 is always the people I get to engage with across this industry. The next would be providing quality programs, products and solutions for consumers. I take a lot of pride walking into a retail store with my family and showing them a program that Navajo developed with the retailer that satisfies a consumer need.
