The Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) has released one stop-motion animation and two videos that bring to life the versatility of Idaho potatoes and the beauty of cooking with fresh, colorful ingredients. By using unique and engaging graphics and creative cinematography, the wholesomeness of Idaho potatoes is showcased in an entirely new way, say IPC officials.

“With more and more consumers turning to videos for news and entertainment, we wanted to create culinary videos that stop consumers in their tracks that they can’t help but share through social media,” says Frank Muir, president and CEO of IPC. “These three new videos underscore the versatility of Idaho potatoes and remind viewers to always look for the Grown in Idaho seal.”

Two of the videos demonstrate how to make Idaho Potato Doughnut Holes with Salted Caramel Glaze and Idaho Potato and Beet Galette. A combination of dramatic food shots, playful props and contemporary music put these culinary masterpieces in a class all of their own. The third, a stop-motion animation titled Kale-Idaho Potato-Scope, features many of the potato varieties grown in Idaho including Purple Peruvians, Russets, Fingerlings, Yukon Golds and Reds. The slices arrange themselves in a sort of kaleidoscope pattern.

The videos were produced by Monica Stevenson and Lainey Dubinsky.

IPC has also appointed Ritchey Toevs of Toevs Farm as chairman and Lynn Wilcox of Wilcox, Floyd & Sons as vice chairman of the IPC for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

“While serving as commissioners for several years, both Ritchey and Lynn have proven themselves to be outstanding leaders and true advocates of the Idaho potato industry,” says Muir. “I look forward to working with them in the upcoming year and implementing our new marketing initiatives that are not only creative, but drive demand for Idaho potatoes.”

All of the IPC’s marketing programs were developed to meet four overarching marketing goals: stimulate demand for all Idaho potato-branded products domestically and internationally; educate consumers that Idaho potatoes are nutritious, heart-healthy, and relevant for today’s lifestyles; build consumer and customer loyalty in seeking Grown in Idaho products; and increase grower understanding and support of IPC programs.

The IPC is comprised of nine Commissioners who represent the Idaho potato growers, shippers and processors. They are nominated by industry peers and selected by Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter. The seven other Commissioners are:

  • Dan Nakamura, Idahoan

  • Peggy Grover, Bench Mark Potato Company

  • Tommy Brown, Lamb Weston

  • Mike Christensen, Christensen Farms

  • Nick Blanksma, Legacy Farms

  • Randy Hardy, Hardy Farms

  • James Hoff, Hoff Farms
