Tostitos Launches Telenovela Web Series to Promote New Products

In conjunction with the launch of three new additions to the Tostitos portfolio, Tostitos has introduced Botanas Del Cielo, a telenovela in history, directed by renowned film director and producer Pedro Pablo Ybarra. The new web series offers the passion and flare of traditional Mexican-style telenovelas with a spicy twist— chips, dips and salsa.

“Telenovelas have become this cultural phenomenon,” says Jeff Klein, vice president of marketing at Frito-Lay North America. “Tostitos wants to inspire America to have spicier telenovela moments with our newest Tostitos products—Tostitos Cantina Chipotle Thin chips, Tostitos Dip-etizers Spicy Queso, Tostitos Chunky Habanero Salsa, and party-favorite Tostitos Rolls! tortilla chips—that bring the heat.”

In every telenovela there is a common storyline: love lost, love found, betrayal, redemption, drama and most importantly, unexpected endings. Botanas Del Cielo showcases four spicy telenovela storylines: from Gabriela’s long-awaited wedding thwarted by a surprising suitor to a dramatic chain of drink tossing over Enrique’s shameless double-dipping … even a paternity shocker!

Fans can enjoy the steamiest and spiciest of drama in four episodes online. 

Inspired by the flavors of Mexico, the Tostitos brand and Ybarra also want to bring out the telenovela in its fans. Beginning April 22, fans can visit Tostitos.com to “telenovela” themselves with a personalized GIF that transforms them into one of their favorite characters. 

The new series is dialing up the spice with three new additions to the Tostitos portfolio: Cantina Chipotle Thins, Tostitos Dip-etizers Spicy Queso and Tostitos Chunky Habanero Salsa. Cantina Chipotle Thins bring authentic seasoning with each thin, crispy corn tortilla chip that is lightly sprinkled with the perfect blend of Cantina-inspired flavors and seasonings for a mild, smoky heat and authentic chipotle spice. Dip-etizers Spicy Queso Spicy Queso heats up the party with red bell peppers and cracked red pepper added to Tostitos microwaveable queso for a spicy flavor that goes from pantry to microwave to party in just minutes. Habanero Salsa spices things up at any get together with ripe tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños combined with spicy habanero peppers.

Tostitos Cantina Chipotle Thin chips, Tostitos Dip-etizers Spicy Queso and Tostitos Chunky Habanero Salsa are available at stores nationwide. Tostitos Cantina Chipotle Thin chips are offered in 9-ounce packages for a suggested retail price of $3.29 each. Tostitos Dip-etizers Spicy Queso is available in 20-ounce packages for a suggested retail price of $3.99 and Tostitos Chunky Habanero Salsa is available in 15.5-ounce jars for a suggested retail price of $3.29 each.
