SAN ANTONIO — H-E-B’s Central Market is turning up the heat with a chile recipe contest.

During its annual Hatch chile festival, which runs Aug. 21 to 30, it’s hosting the 2009 Hatch Chile contest. The winner will get a $100 Central Market gift card and a one year supply of roasted Hatch chiles. Contestants can enter online by providing the recipe name, description, serving size, prep time and ingredients and measurements, and tips and hints. They also need to upload a picture of the completed dish

Several finalists will be chosen to compete in a taste-off before judges at select Central Market stores.

“Our customers are creative cooks, and the contest is your chance to share your favorite Hatch recipe with the world,” Central Market writes in promotional materials.

Contestants can make whatever dish they want, as long as it includes Hatch chiles as an ingredient.

“Hatch devil’s food cake, veal chops with roasted Hatch chutney, Hatch-n-mac-n-cheese — nothing is out of bounds,” according to Central Market.
