WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Raley’s Supermarkets here is asking its consumers to make a 30-second television commercial extolling the virtues of the chain’s private-label products. Those who make the best commercial can win $5,000 in gift cards at its food or fuel stores.

Entrants have until Jan. 31 to post their commercials on a video website like YouTube or to submit them in a readable digital format, after which members of the Raley’s marketing and advertising department will narrow the submissions down to three entries and leave it up to subscribers to the chain’s weekly e-newsletter, TableTalk, to select the ultimate winner.

Chain officials said they have not determined how they will use the winning commercial, “but if it meets all legal requirements, we would certainly consider ways to share the content with the public,” a spokeswoman told SN.
