QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop here is promoting its Redbox DVD rental kiosks with a free movie offer.
A promo code for a free nightly rental is printed in the latest issue of Small Victories, its consumer newsletter. The offer is valid through May 22.
The newsletter also suggests that Redbox viewers form a “Flick Clique — the new book club.” Flick Cliques are a kind of discussion group where people agree on a DVD, watch it on their own, then meet to discuss it over food and drinks.
“It’s less of a time commitment than reading a novel,” according to Small Victories. “Plus you’ll save money.” Redbox DVDs are available for $1 for a one-night rental.
Each Redbox kiosk holds 630 DVDs, including up to 200 new releases, and consumers can reserve them online or with an iPhone app. The DVDs are labeled with bar codes, which require them to face a certain direction when inserted into the kiosk upon return.
Along with Stop & Shop, other food retailers that have Redbox kiosks include Kroger Co., Wal-Mart Stores, Giant Eagle and Food Lion.
