ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Nancy's Pies here, a supplier to in-store bakeries and other outlets, has introduced no-sugar-added cream cakes, the company's first cake line.

The debut was spurred by the company's success with no-sugar-added pies and the increasing popularity of cream cakes, said George Coin, owner and president of the company, which specializes in pies made without sugar.

"We could have added no-sugar-added muffins or brownies, but cream cakes are becoming almost as traditional in in-store bakeries as pies. That's why we chose them as our next no-sugar-added product," Coin said. The company does not offer cream cakes made with sugar.

The 18-ounce cakes, fully baked and frozen, are available in eight flavors: lemon poppy, almond poppy, apple walnut, blueberry, banana nut, double chocolate, chocolate swirl and pecan.

At least 95% of the company's sales volume is in no-sugar-added products, Coin said. Nancy's makes four sizes of no-sugar-added pies and just one size with sugar, a single-serving, four-inch pie.
