The Flashfood app now allows Giant Eagle shoppers to use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Giant Eagle first rolled out Flashfood to all of its supermarket locations in 2022. The free Flashfood app gives shoppers access to exclusive deals on products, including meat, produce, seafood, dairy, deli, and bakery, that are nearing their best-by dates. In turn, the reduced prices drive purchases of food that otherwise would go to the retailer’s waste stream.

Giant Eagle shoppers who use the app can now use Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) for payment.

“Our continued partnership with Flashfood is helping us to better serve our guests by offering significant savings on important grocery options,” Giant Eagle said in a statement. “We are thrilled that Flashfood is now able to accept EBT payment through the app, giving our guests more flexibility to manage their grocery budgets.”

So far, Giant Eagle and Flashfood have prevented 3.8 million pounds of food waste.
