More Giant Food Stores locations in Pennsylvania now have access to online grocery shopping and delivery services via Peapod.

Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant said the Peapod service has become available to customers of its stores in Reading, Birdsboro and Temple, Pa., covering a dozen new ZIP codes.

Overall, 109 of the more than 170 stores under Giant and Martin’s banners are now within the geography of Peapod’s delivery range, according to a spokesman for Giant Food Stores, whose stores are in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. The supermarket retailer and Peapod are both subsidiaries of Ahold Delhaize USA.

Through the service, Reading-area residents and businesses can go to Peapod.com or use the Peapod mobile app to shop for groceries — including fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood, meat and dairy, as well as national brand and Giant private label products — and have them delivered to their home or worksite. Also available for delivery via Peapod are a wide selection of meal solutions, such as ready-to-cook meal kits, chopped produce and rotisserie chickens.

Groceries can be delivered as soon as the next day after the order is placed, Giant said. First-time Peapod customers get $20 off their first order and 60 days free delivery.

“We are focused on making it an easy shopping experience no matter where, when or how our customers want to shop for their groceries. The Reading market is important to our growth, and Peapod is a great addition that will help us meet the evolving needs of our customers,” Giant Vice President of Marketing Matt Simon said in a statement.

A range of other features also are offered through Peapod. Giant BonusCard customers can automatically view their in-store purchase history on Peapod.com for fast ordering. Giant shoppers, too, can use store coupons online plus earn Giant Gas Extra Rewards and A School Rewards for online purchases.

When shopping online through Peapod, customers can create custom digital aisles. A filter tool allows shoppers to personalize searches using 16 features specific to nutrition preferences, including gluten-free, nut-free, vegetarian, organic and non-GMO. In addition, sorting tools enable shoppers to collate products by such variables as unit price, sodium, sugar or fat content.

“We’re able to create a personalized and curated shopping experience that helps busy consumers find what they’re looking for with just a few clicks,” according to Walt Lentz, acting president at Peapod. “This ease of use has been core to growing our business by double digits in the region for the last three consecutive years.”
