GLOUCESTER, Mass. -- Kroger, Publix Super Markets, Winn-Dixie Stores and Ralphs Grocery Co. are among the retailers the Gorton's Fisherman is visiting as part of a National Frozen Food Month activity.
The tour began in New York/New Jersey last week and will continue throughout this month in Boston, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
While Gorton's here has conducted other in-store visits by the well-known bearded fisherman, this is the first time the genuine Gorton's fisherman, Denny Miller, is participating. Last year, people dressed up as Miller appeared in-store.
Miller is appearing in a total of about 15 stores, including Market Basket, Vons, Shop Rite and Lucky. During the visits, he hands out coupons and hosts a "fish and fun" event, during which children can "fish" in a tub filled with Gorton's magnets.
The promotion was timed to tie in with NFFM and the high-selling fish consumption period. According to Gorton's, 41% of all fish consumption is between January and April.
