Goya Foods Donates 100,000 Pounds of Food to Hurricane Victims

Goya Foods,will donate 100,000 pounds of Goya products to victims of hurricane Isaac in Louisiana.  The donation will be administered and distributed by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, a non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against hunger in south Louisiana through food distribution, education, advocacy and disaster response. Goya has a long history of providing aid to those impacted by natural disasters and has made significant donations both at home, including those impacted by Hurricane Katrina as well as abroad in Mexico, Haiti, Chile, Peru and El Salvador, among others. “Giving has always been an integral part of not only our culture, but for Goya at large, especially during such difficult times,” says Bob Unanue, President of Goya Foods.  “We wanted to help all the families and children who were affected by the devastation of Hurricane Isaac and hope that our donation of healthy food products will provide necessary nutrients.  We also want to thank Second Harvest Food Bank for their assistance and dedication in this time of need.” The 100,000 pound donation which will produce over 83,000 meals will include healthy products from Goya’s MyPlate product line in addition to staple items like rice, beans, canned goods and coconut water.  “We are so appreciative of this generous donation by Goya Foods,” says Natalie Jayroe, President/CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. “This donation will help provide a nutritious meal for families in need throughout south Louisiana.”
