Kontos Foods announced that for the 2013 holiday season it will donate a portion of its retail pastry sales at select retailers to food banks. The program will run from now to the end of the year and apply to purchases at key retail outlets such as Shop-Rite and Wegmans. “During the holidays, consumers are often buying specialty dessert items to share with their families, such as baklava and other pastries. We wanted to offer them an added incentive to purchase our products by giving a portion of our sales revenue to organizations that help needy families,” says Steve Kontos, vice president of Kontos Foods. The program includes classic and assorted baklava, Mediterranean nut rolls, Koulourakia (Braided Butter Cookies) and Kataifi pastry. “Our consumers are the reason we have a successful business in the first place. Kontos Foods is always looking for ways to give back to the community, and this program is a simple way to communicate to our customers that we appreciate them, while helping others,” said Warren Stoll, Kontos Foods’ marketing director. Tying this program with key retail accounts was the idea of Donna Appy, Kontos regional sales manager.
