Lowes Foods has expanded online grocery delivery in the Carolinas with Shipt.

The companies said same-day delivery of groceries and staple household items ordered online from Lowes via the Shipt marketplace began Nov. 1 at the supermarket chain’s stores in Wilmington and the Triad and the Triangle areas of North Carolina and the Charleston, Columbia and Greenville markets in South Carolina.

With the expansion, nearly 3 million households in the region now have access to an assortment of Lowes products through Shipt service, including one-hour delivery.

Lowes kicked off home delivery with Shipt — including groceries, beer and wine — in June 2017, starting with stores in its home market of Winston-Salem, N.C. The retailer, a subsidiary of Alex Lee Inc., also offers online grocery delivery and curbside pickup through most of its stores via its Lowes Foods To Go service. The chain has about 100 stores in the Carolinas and Virginia.

“Our organization is constantly seeking new and innovative ways to expand Lowes Foods’ omnichannel footprint and serve guests digitally,” President Tim Lowe said in a statement. “Since launching our partnership in late 2017, Shipt has helped us reach new pockets of guests throughout the Carolinas, introducing them to all of the elements that make Lowes Foods a truly unique grocery experience. We’re excited to broaden the benefits that Shipt brings to our guests, especially as we head into the busy holiday selling season.”

Birmingham, Ala.-based Shipt, part of Target Corp., said it plans to add to its network of personal shoppers in the Carolinas to accommodate the expansion with Lowes. Shipt personal shoppers pick, pack and deliver online grocery orders to customers.

“Residents of North and South Carolina area are loyal Shipt fans, and today we’re able to bring them more options than ever to better serve their unique preferences,” Shipt founder and CEO Bill Smith said. “With local retailer Lowes Foods, Shipt is making shopping for daily essentials even easier.”
