Carolinas grocer Lowes Foods is the latest supermarket chain to launch DoorDash online grocery delivery.

More than 70 Lowes Foods stores across North and South Carolina are now offering on-demand delivery through DoorDash, the San Francisco-based last-mile delivery specialist said yesterday.

Lowes Foods customers can now shop over 50,000 products ranging from fresh produce, meat, bread and baked goods to everyday essentials via the DoorDash mobile app and website and get their orders delivered to their doorstep on the same-day, according to DoorDash. Lowes shoppers also can set their delivery to arrive at a later time slot by selecting the “Schedule Ahead” option from the service’s Checkout page.

Lowes customers also can get online pickup and/or delivery via the Lowes Foods-To-Go service and third-party providers Instacart and Shipt.

A subsidiary of grocery distributor Alex Lee, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Lowes Foods operates 80 full-service supermarkets in the Carolinas and Virginia. Lowes also offers online grocery shopping for pickup and/or delivery via its Lowes Foods-To-Go service and through Instacart and Shipt.

“We’re excited to add DoorDash to Lowes Foods’ suite of convenient, online ordering options in the Carolinas,” Chad Petersen, vice president of e-commerce at Lowes Foods and Alex Lee Retail, said in a statement. “DoorDash customers will have the opportunity to shop from our complete assortment of fresh and center-store products, which not only includes national brands but Lowes Foods’ Brown Bag and private-label items.

Petersen added, “Customers will also be able to order our Lowes Foods Originals prepared foods from the Chicken Kitchen, freshly chopped produce from Pick & Prep, premium Boars Head meats and cheeses from our deli, and even our famous square cakes from The Cakery.”

Lowes Foods e-grocery shopping also is available via DashPass, DoorDash’s membership program that offers members no delivery fee on orders from thousands of restaurants and grocery and convenience stores nationwide. Lowes orders of $25 or more are eligible for the DashPass benefits.

“We are excited to partner with Lowes Foods to offer consumers across the Carolinas a fast and convenient option to access their favorite grocery products, on-demand,” stated Shanna Prevé, vice president of strategic partnerships and business development at DoorDash.

DoorDash has steadily added supermarket chains to its delivery base since unveiling plans to ramp up its expansion into the grocery retail sector in 2020. DoorDash had previously provided grocery retailers only with last-mile delivery of groceries and meals through its white-label DoorDash Drive service, in which retail partners fielded, picked and packed the orders. But with its expanded market entry, DoorDash is serving up an end-to-end online grocery marketplace solution, encompassing ordering, fulfillment and delivery.

Companies recently launching DoorDash delivery include Southeastern Grocers, Dollar General, United Natural Foods Inc. (in a reseller arrangement with independent grocery customers) and Albertsons Cos. Earlier this month, DoorDash also introduced “ultra-fast” grocery delivery in New York City — 15 minutes or less — starting with a new DashMart location in Manhattan.
