Building on its online grocery service, Meijer has begun home delivery of beer and wine to customers in Ohio.

The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based supercenter chain said its assortment of craft beer and wine is now available from 40 Ohio stores through the Meijer Home Delivery service, which uses Shipt for order fulfillment and delivery.

Currently, Ohio and Michigan are the only states where alcohol is included as part of the Meijer Home Delivery service. Home delivery of beer, wine and spirits launched in Michigan in July 2017.

“We’ve received an incredible amount of feedback from customers wanting to take advantage of our large selection of craft beers and wine,” Keith Rothstein, group vice president of merchandise services at Meijer, said in a statement. “We think this enhances the level of convenience our home delivery customers in Ohio can enjoy and allows them to take more advantage of what our stores have to offer.”

Customers must provide identification to place and receive grocery home delivery orders that include alcohol, Meijer noted. The Shipt personal shoppers, who are at least 21 years old and certified to deliver alcohol, must verify that customers receiving the order have identification showing they are of legal drinking age.

Meijer Home Delivery made its debut in March 2017 and now reaches more than 11 million households in the retailer’s six-state footprint of Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, where it has 240 supercenters and grocery stores.

More than 70,000 grocery items and daily essentials are available through the Shipt-powered delivery service, including fresh produce, frozen food, baby care products and pet food. Orders are delivered orders within a designated one-hour time window.

Annual memberships for Meijer Home Delivery are $99, while monthly memberships cost $14. New members get two weeks free plus $15 off their first order. Delivery is free for orders over $35, and a flat $7 delivery fee is added to any orders less than $35.
