TAMPA, Fla. -- Sweetbay Supermarkets here, the new chain that will be created out of Delhaize America's Kash n' Karry Stores division, does not plan to offer a loyalty card program, the company said here last week.

"Sweetbay will offer many low prices in addition to quality foods, so customers won't need a loyalty card," Jake Allen, a chain spokesman, told SN.

However, stores with the Kash n' Karry banner will continue to accept the loyalty cards they have already distributed until they have been converted to the new banner, Allen said.

The first Sweetbay is scheduled to open in Seminole, Fla., a suburb of St. Petersburg, on Nov. 6. Four more stores -- all conversions -- are expected to open Dec. 11 in the Naples area of southwest Florida, and 11 to 15 additional stores, including new and converted units, are scheduled to open during the first quarter of 2005 in the Naples and Fort Myers areas, Allen said.
