Mehmood Khan, M.D., vice chairman and chief scientific officer of Global R&D at PepsiCo, will deliver the opening keynote at the Asian American Business Roundtable (AABR) at its upcoming Summit, Taking Risks and Changing the Game, being held at The Venetian Las Vegas, on January 29-30, 2016.

Dr. Khan, who is also Co-Chair of the event, will address the significance of Asian Americans in U.S. business, highlighting the unique cross-cultural perspective that the group brings to enhance corporate business strategies and global relations.  He will be joined by a prominent group of speakers comprised of a broad range of industry leaders, including JuE Wong, President, Elizabeth Arden Brand; Phyllis Campbell, Chairman, Pacific Northwest, JP Morgan Chase; Peter Lee, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft; and Maggie Hsu, Chief of Staff to Tony Hsieh, Zappos, among others.

“In today’s increasingly complex global marketplace, a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace has never been more vital to PepsiCo’s success,” says Dr. Khan. “As a founding member of the Asian American Business Roundtable, I am proud to be part of this inaugural Summit. It’s a unique opportunity to learn from peers and nurture the next generation of Asian American leaders.”\

“Mehmood is a truly innovative leader, who built a prominent medical career and expertise, which he now leverages to develop healthier foods and beverages at one of the largest global corporations,” says John Wang, President of Asian American Business Development Center, which formed AABR. “With such broad ranging experience and expertise, he will contribute a unique perspective that will prove highly valuable to our audience and inspire greater advancement of Asian Americans across all business sectors.”

As vice chairman and chief scientific officer of Global R&D at PepsiCo, Dr. Khan leads company-wide research and development (R&D); recruits highly regarded clinical scientists, global health leaders and medical experts; launches research projects with leading universities; and opens advanced R&D facilities – all to grow the company’s nutrition-focused brands.  Prior to PepsiCo, Dr. Khan was president of Takeda Global Research & Development Center, overseeing Takeda Pharmaceuticals Company’s worldwide R&D efforts. He was previously a faculty member at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn., serving as director of the Diabetes, Endocrine and Nutritional Trials Unit in the endocrinology division. He also spent nine years leading programs in diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism and nutrition for the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Among his many awards and affiliations, Dr. Khan received the Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC) “Pinnacle” award in 2013.

The AABR was launched to promote the growing prominence of Asian American executives throughout the U.S. and capitalize on Asia’s continuing emergence as an engine of global economic growth. Through its Summit, AABR seeks to increase the visibility and presence of Asian Americans in U.S. business, address national and global business challenges of the 21st century, and develop a mentorship program to groom future generations of Asian American business leaders. AABR also looks to assist global corporations seeking to expand in Asia, as well as Asia-based companies seeking U.S. partnerships.
