Rite Aid to launch Shipt delivery chainwide

Expansion comes after pilot of same-day service

Rite Aid is bringing Shipt same-day delivery of nonprescription products to all of its 2,100-plus stores in 17 states.

Through the service, Rite Aid shoppers can order from more than 20,000 products — such as over-the-counter medicine and health care, vitamins and supplements, beauty and personal care items, snacks and beverages — through the Shipt online marketplace and have them delivered in as soon as an hour, Birmingham, Ala.-based Shipt said yesterday.   

The chainwide launch follows a successful pilot and comes as both companies have seen same-day delivery shift “from a luxury to a convenience to a must-have” for consumers, according to Shipt, a subsidiary of Target Corp.

“Our partnership with Shipt brings another level of convenience to the Rite Aid customer experience,” Katie Finnegan, chief customer experience and e-commerce officer at Rite Aid, said in a statement. “As consumer preferences continue to evolve, offering options is important, and we’ll continue exploring ways to make it as easy as possible for our customers to get the items they need to keep their families healthy, happy and thriving.”

Customers place orders through Rite Aid’s page on the Shipt marketplace or via the Shipt mobile app. After adding products to their virtual cart and selecting a nearby Rite Aid store, they select a delivery time frame and a Shipt personal shopper picks, packs and delivers their order.

In support of the new partnership, Shipt is offering Rite Aid customers $10 off their first order for a minimum $50 transaction through Aug. 12.

Shipt marks Rite Aid’s third partner for on-demand delivery service for front-of-store products. The Camp Hill, Pa.-based drugstore chain has offered same-day delivery of groceries and OTC health products at all of its stores through Instacart under a partnership announced just over a year ago. And this past May, Rite Aid teamed up with DoorDash for same-day delivery of nonprescription health, wellness and convenience products.

Overall, Shipt’s online shopping and delivery services are available to 80% of households in more than 5,000 U.S. cities.
