Sam’s Club launches alcohol delivery
Warehouse club also goes chainwide with Instacart
Sam’s Club has expanded its delivery partnership with Instacart to include alcoholic beverages from more than a third of its stores and online grocery service from all of its locations.
The Walmart subsidiary said yesterday that online ordering and delivery of beer, wine and liquor via Instacart is now available from over 200 of its warehouse clubs in more than 10 states. Meanwhile, same-day grocery delivery through Instacart — launched at Sam’s more than a year ago — has been expanded to its 589 clubs across the United States.
Sam’s noted that the new alcohol service enables members to order from hundreds of products at SamsClub.com/Instacart or through the Instacart mobile app and have their beverages delivered to their door in as soon as one hour. The selection ranges from sangria and Prosecco and Moscato D’Asti sparkling wines under the retailer’s Member’s Mark brand to favorites like Kendall Jackson Chardonnay wine, Modelo Especial beer and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
Alcohol delivery is expected to get under way at more clubs in the coming months, Bentonville, Ark.-based Sam’s Club said. States where the service is currently offered include Florida, California and Missouri, among others. Customers who order alcohol via Instacart must be age 21 or older and enter their date of birth at checkout and present a valid government ID upon delivery.
“Sam’s Club is focused on offering quality products, unexpected finds and better customer experiences,” Racquel Harris, vice president of adult beverages at Sam’s, said in a statement. “Now you can select the perfect bottle of wine to complement your dinner or stock up on your favorite beer or spirits for the big game with the convenience of delivery.”
Sam’s began piloting Instacart grocery delivery in the Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and St. Louis markets in late February 2018 and then, after successful tests in those markets plus San Diego and Los Angeles, expanded the service to nearly 350 of its clubs by the end of October.
“Instacart is proud to collaborate with Sam’s Club to provide wine, beer and spirits delivery for their valued members. By extending our marketplace categories, we’re making it even easier for customers to shop from Sam’s Club for all their needs, from groceries and household essentials to alcohol,” said Andrew Nodes, vice president of retail at San Francisco-based Instacart. “We’re proud to have grown our relationship with Sam’s Club to include its clubs across the U.S., helping members across the country get the groceries they need in as fast as an hour.”
