After watching a national-brand pasta salad kit deliver strong sales, Save-A-Lot decided to carry a kit under its own exclusive Italian/Pasta brand, Del Pino's.

The retailer worked with a manufacturer to ensure national-brand-level high quality, and followed with taste-testing. "It is a very delicious salad that is easy to make, and a perfect side dish for picnics, barbecues or any holiday or summer meal," said Jamie Folsom, spokeswoman for Save-A-Lot.

The salad kit was introduced in spring 2005, in time for summer, Folsom said. The vivid label design bears Italy's national colors of red, green and white. The prepared product is featured on the package.

The kit comes in three varieties: Creamy Parmesan, Bacon Ranch and the winning, Italian. A 6.4-ounce package retails for 99 cents. "It is a high-quality item that we offer at a great low price," Folsom said.
