PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. — A new white paper from the Smart Card Alliance asserts that microchip-based smart card technology “brings a higher level of security to payment and identity systems worldwide,” said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance, in a statement. The free paper, “What Makes a Smart Card Secure,” details how smart card technology uses secure integrated circuits as the core of the technology, and explains the security benefits this provides to devices such as contactless payment cards. The paper, developed by the Smart Card Alliance Contactless and Mobile Payment Council’s Security Work Group, is available on the Smart Card Alliance website, smartcardalliance.org.
