Southeastern Grocers kicks off customized e-grocery delivery service

Customers get access to in-store deals, promos via DoorDash-fulfilled platform

Southeastern Grocers (SEG) is closely aligning its new proprietary online grocery service with its in-store shopping experience — especially in pricing.

Jacksonville, Fla.-based SEG said Wednesday that the e-grocery shopping and delivery service, which leverages the DoorDash Drive white-label fulfillment platform from DoorDash, is now live at more than 375 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

SEG noted that it partnered with DoorDash and other “top-tier” technology and e-commerce industry specialists to develop its online grocery offering, first announced last month. They include Toronto-based grocery e-commerce solution provider Mercatus, which developed the front end for SEG. Along with convenience, SEG said, a key focus in customizing the service for its supermarket banners was enabling customers to take advantage of the deals and promotions offered in stores when shopping online.

The new online grocery service is designed to help customers “better their lives and stretch their wallets,” according to Andrew Nadin, chief customer and digital officer at SEG.

“We are excited to introduce our new online shopping and grocery delivery service to our Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket customers,” Nadin said in a statement. “This innovative online shopping feature is an extension of shopping our local stores, offering the same promotions and savings they will find in stores. It’s a ‘Winn Win’ for our customers seeking quality and value with the added convenience of delivery.”

Through the proprietary service, Winn-Dixie and Harveys customers can shop for their groceries via the banners’ apps and websites and receive their orders in as soon as two hours for $9. Plans call for SEG to expand delivery to its Fresco y Más stores and rollout curbside pickup in Winn-Dixie, Harveys and Fresco y Más stores starting early next year.

Overall, SEG 423 supermarkets under the Winn-Dixie, Harveys and Fresco y Más banners in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi.

DoorDash first teamed up with SEG in December 2021. With the move, the retailer launched DoorDash same-day grocery delivery in as soon as 45 minutes across its retail banners.

In support of the e-grocery service launch, Winn-Dixie and Harveys customers with orders of $35 or more get free two-hour delivery under a limited-time promotion.

San Francisco-based DoorDash marks SEG’s fourth on-demand grocery delivery partner. The retailer also offers delivery service through Instacart, Shipt and Uber Eats.
