The Jesse H. Neal Awards named Supermarket News as a finalist for the Best Media Brand for overall editorial excellence in business-to-business media.

The Neal Awards, regarded as the Pulitzer Prizes of business-to-business journalism, judges the Best Media Brand category on a publication’s depth of offerings, journalistic excellence, presentation, service to readers and innovation across print, digital media, events and social platforms.

“The team at Supermarket News is thrilled to be recognized as a finalist in this category, particularly in a year that was so challenging to so many,” said Michael Browne, executive editor of Supermarket News. “During the pandemic our audience of food and grocery retailers, as well as wholesalers and manufacturers, had an urgent need for news and content they could use in their businesses every day, and we took that responsibility seriously. It’s amazing to be recognized for work that we are so proud to have created.”

That work resulted in unprecedented audience engagement with Supermarket News, said Browne, pointing to the brand’s in-depth news and extensive COVID coverage; proprietary reports such as the annual Center Store survey and the year-end Analysts Roundtable; and robust multimedia editorial packages such as SN’s Retailer of the Year, as well as video, galleries and SN Off the Shelf podcasts.

'During the pandemic our audience of food and grocery retailers had an urgent need for news and content they could use in their businesses every day, and we took that responsibility seriously,' said Michael Browne, executive editor of Supermarket News.

“The editorial team that drives Supermarket News each day is an unparalleled group of writers, editors, digital producers and designers that create industry-leading content to a wide audience across the grocery and retail food segments,” said Sarah Lockyer, group publisher of the Informa Restaurant & Food Group. “During a year of so much change – when food and foodservice went more digital than ever and workers in the industry were deemed essential – Supermarket News delivered impactful journalism, and it’s wonderful for the team to be recognized for that work.”

Informa’s Restaurant & Food Group was further recognized by the Neal Awards, with Nation’s Restaurant News being named a finalist in Best Media Brand (in a different category than Supermarket News) and its Restaurants Rise digital event named a finalist in the Best New Product category.

The Neal Awards, founded by Connectiv in 1955, will be announced during a virtual ceremony on June 9, 2021.
