DALLAS -- Tom Thumb Food & Drugs gave out free tickets to a popular local attraction as a way to focus shopper attention on its camera assortment, and to help stimulate picture-taking and photoprocessing.

"It's the first time we gave out tickets to The Scarborough Renaissance Faire, a reconstructed medieval village that puts on a play popular with children and adults," said Jack Sprabary, corporate vice president for general merchandise. Shoppers received a $12.75 admission ticket when they purchased a Polaroid One Step Plus camera. The promotion was funded by Polaroid. "We had good customer response to the promotion," said Monica Mahaffey, general merchandise buyer. "It worked well and stores requested extra tickets."

The camera's regular retail price of $29.99 was cut to $24.99 during the one-week promotion that ran last spring.
