Whole Foods Market is opening its first store in Jersey City, New Jersey, on Nov. 9, the Amazon-owned grocer announced Wednesday.

The 51,156-square-foot store will incorporate a design aesthetic “inspired by the city’s love of art,” with graphics that reflect the nearby Hudson River and a cool-toned color palette.

The store will feature more than 1,000 products produced in the Northeast, including:

  • Produce from more than a dozen local farms such as Oishii, Kurt Weiss Greenhouse, Inc., and Hepworth Farms.

  • Artisan baked crackers from Firehook Bakery, mozzarella from Lioni Latticini, Inc., and pasta from Severino Pasta Company.

  • Black Seed Bagels, coffee from Paper Plane Coffee Co., dairy-free yogurt from CHKP Foods, granola from Naturalvert, quinoa crisps from Undercover and dairy products from Family Farmstead Dairy.

  • Seafood products from Catsmo Artisan Smokehouse, Lund’s Fisheries and Lagniappe Foods, Inc.

  • Meat products from Briarwood Cattle Farm, Bilinski’s and Brooklyn Cured.

  • A prepared foods department with sushi, self-serve salad and hot bars, rotisserie chicken, self-serve pizza and a variety of entrees and side options.

  • A bakery with bread made in-house and local offerings from Balthazar Bakery, Palazzone 1960 and Angel Bakeries.

  • Wellness and beauty items from LUX Naturals, Tiny Kitchen Candle Co. and Bodhi Organics.

The store will also provide complimentary coffee and pastries on opening day, and the first 300 people will receive tote bags and coupons with offers up to $100 off.

The new store is part of Whole Foods’ expansion goal of opening roughly 30 stores a year, CEO Jason Buechel said in January at the National Retail Federation’s NRF 2023 Retail’s Big Show.

“We are so bullish on our potential to continue to add stores,” he said at the expo. “We currently have about 50 stores in our pipeline. We're looking to grow that to at least a hundred. Ultimately, we want to be opening 30 or more stores a year. For us, it’s the ability to serve more customers.”

The Austin, Texas-based company most recently opened a new location in Springfield, Virginia, last Friday.
