Brookshire Grocery Company has chosen Atlanta-based NCR Corporation to provide the foundation for its in-store technology, including everything from point-of-sale to self-checkout, loyalty programs and more, the tech company announced.

The Tyler, Texas-based grocer pilot tested the technology in one of its 206 stores in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma, and is starting with NCR Emerald, a cloud-native POS system.

The NCR Commerce Platform (NCP) maintains the ability to bring together disparate existing and future retail applications throughout the company’s various banners, which include Brookshire, Spring Market, Fresh by Brookshire’s, Reasor’s and Super 1 Foods & Discount Pharmacy.

“BGC places a priority on customer service, and we’re looking for ways to leverage technology to improve the experience for our customers,” said Shawn Sedate, CIO of Brookshire Grocery Company, in a statement. “Now that we’re live in our first store, we plan to start rolling out NCR’s solutions to our 206 locations. By simplifying and standardizing our store infrastructure, we’ll have more time to focus on customer needs and create offers that keep shoppers coming back.”

The platform enables Brookshire to implement new technology faster and at a lower cost, according to NCR. “BGC has always had the right approach to upgrading and deploying next-generation applications with speed. It simply needed the right technology to support these efforts,” said David Wilkinson, president of NCR Commerce, in a statement. “From POS to self-checkout, or loyalty to payments, changes that took long periods of time to build, test and roll out across large store estates can now be achieved much quicker with the NCP.”

Brookshire joins a number of other supermarket chains that have incorporated NCR tech into their business models. Those include Bashas’, Stater Bros. Markets and Northgate Market, among others, according to the NCR Corporation website.

Operating efficiently is crucial for the fast-growing grocer, which purchased 17 Reasor’s stores in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in early 2022, and has more recently opened Brookshire locations in Louisiana.
