Schnuck Markets Inc. is leveraging new solutions to increase store productivity and checkout speed.

The new system from Zebra Technologies Corp. converts barcodes from 1D to 2D, which allows for additional information to be embedded ensuring accurate data capture. The system includes cordless scanners that work to reduce double scans, speeding up the checkout process.

The scanners can capture virtually every electronic and printed barcode regardless of condition and are also applicable to fresh products.

Associates will also be equipped with mobile computers with Android that help run Schnucks Shelf Management (ShelfMan) application to manage store inventory, order products and transfer items between stores.

"One of our core values is putting the customer first,” said Dave Steck, VP of IT infrastructure and application development for Schnucks. “Zebra’s innovative, reliable grocery solutions have improved the efficiency and performance of our teammates, which has led to better customer service.”

Schnucks also recently deployed shelf-scanning robots that assist with inventory management.
